Jordan: Restaurant Owner Ousts Israelis
[The Chutzpah !! they come from the land that would make Hitler proud in its discrimination and racism towards the native population and they complain about being refused service. They should be banned from entering the country, no self respecting Arab state should allow these colonizers and land thieves from setting foot on Arab soil.]
(New York) - Jordanian authorities should fully investigate and publicly condemn the recent refusal by the owner of an Aqaba restaurant to serve Israeli Jews, Human Rights Watch said today.
The restaurant owner told Human Rights Watch that the people she turned away in late November 2010 had gone on to file a complaint with the police, but that the police told her they did not intend to pursue the incident. Jordan is bound by its international obligations to prohibit and eliminate racial discrimination in any place intended for use by the general public, such as a restaurant, Human Rights Watch said.
"When it comes to restaurants, there's an obligation even on private businesses not to discriminate based on nationality or religion," said Christoph Wilcke, senior Middle East researcher at Human Rights Watch. "Jordanian authorities should investigate and make sure they have adequate laws and other tools to address such incidents."
Salwa Al-Barghouti, owner of the Jifra restaurant, told Human Rights Watch that she had asked the two Israelis to leave "because they were Israeli." Asked if they were behaving offensively, she said they were not, and added that she had barred Israelis on several previous occasions.

Walid Jumblat on Wikileaks

By Angry Arab
"Walid Jumblat confirmed the authenticity of Wikileaks. In fact, I can report to you that Hizbullah--hoping to spare its new lousy ally embarrassment--asked him last week to issue denials of his statements in Wikileaks and he refused (telling Hizbullah privately that "we had said even worse things"). He told As-Safir today: "I won't deny what was attributed to me personally (in Wikileaks) because I was in [a state of] alienation that made me use expressions or comments that are contrary to the national and patriotic heritage and now I have returned to my real, natural and historic position.""

Glenn Greenwald on the Arrest of Julian Assange and the U.S. "War on Wikileaks"
Democracy Now!
With Amy Goodman
"WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been arrested in London on an international warrant to face sex crime allegations in Sweden. Assange is expected to face a hasty extradition process to Sweden. We speak with Glenn Greenwald, constitutional attorney and blogger at Salon.com. Greenwald says: "Whatever you think of Wikileaks, they have not been charged with a crime. They have been removed from the internet, their funds have been frozen, politicians have called for their murder. This is a war over control of the internet, which is a way for citizens to bond together to demand accountability from world’s most powerful people."....."

The Truth Will Always Win

".....But our publications have been far from unimportant. The US diplomatic cables reveal some startling facts:
The US asked its diplomats to steal personal human material and information from UN officials and human rights groups, including DNA, fingerprints, iris scans, credit card numbers, internet passwords and ID photos, in violation of international treaties. Presumably Australian UN diplomats may be targeted, too.
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia asked the US Officials in Jordan and Bahrain want Iran ‘s nuclear program stopped by any means available.
Britain's Iraq inquiry was fixed to protect "US interests".
Sweden is a covert member of NATO and US intelligence sharing is kept from parliament.
The US is playing hardball to get other countries to take freed detainees from Guantanamo Bay . Barack Obama agreed to meet the Slovenian President only if Slovenia took a prisoner. Our Pacific neighbour Kiribati was offered millions of dollars to accept detainees.
In its landmark ruling in the Pentagon Papers case, the US Supreme Court said "only a free and unrestrained press can effectively expose deception in government". The swirling storm around WikiLeaks today reinforces the need to defend the right of all media to reveal the truth. "

New Religious Ruling to Forbid Rental of Homes to Arabs

"Dozens of top Israeli rabbis have signed on to a new ruling that would call on Jews not to rent homes to Arabs, Haaretz claimed.
The religious ruling [Jewish Fatwa] comes few months after a call signed by a group of 18 prominent rabbis, including the chief rabbi of Safed, which urged Jews to not rent or sell property to non-Jews.
Amongst those who signed on to the new ruling are the chief rabbis of Ramat Hasharon, Ashdod, Kiryat Gat, Rishon Letzion, Carmiel, Gadera, Afula, Nahariya, Herzliya, Nahariya and Pardes Hannah, and other cities.
Most of the signatories are from Safed, a city with an increasing number of Arab students enrolled at the town's local college. The chief rabbi of Safed, Shmuel Eliyahu, the most prominent one to sign the call, has been criticized in the past for his inflammatory remarks against the Arab population....

What is al-Qaeda really up to?

By Pepe Escobar
Asia Times
"Forget the old-school iconography of Osama bin Laden. In the new narrative of intelligence agencies on al-Qaeda, gone is the talk of a caliphate, Yemen is the name of the game, and the password is the online "re-Islamization" of Muslims living in the West, inspired by the likes of Anwar al-Awlaki. WikiLeaks shows the larger than life evil was an American construct - and the real al-Qaeda now lacks the means to hit strategic targets....
The great Italian writer Umberto Eco, in an essay in the French daily Liberation, has pointed out how WikiLeaks has revealed that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's secrets are in fact empty secrets - thus stripped of their power. As much as WikiLeaks has revealed that the emperor is naked when the empire cannot even maintain its own secrets, it is legitimate to add it remains naked as it also cannot maintain its lies. Onwards with "death by a thousand cuts". "

Attack the Messenger; Ignore the Message and Fabricate: WikiLeaks' founder Assange arrested in London

The Independent
"WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested by officers from Scotland Yard's extradition unit today. The 39-year-old Australian was held when he attended a central London police station by appointment.
He is now expected to appear before a district judge at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court later today.....
Detectives in Sweden want to question Mr Assange after two women claimed they were sexually assaulted when he visited the country in August.
Solicitor Mark Stephens said his client was keen to discover what allegations he was facing so he could clear his name.

WikiLeaks cables: Sudan warned to block Iranian arms bound for Gaza

Pressure exerted on Arab states over weapons that could be used against Israel
Ian Black, Middle East editor
guardian.co.uk, Monday 6 December 2010
"The US has worked discreetly to block the supply of Iranian and Syrian weapons to the Palestinian movement Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah, pressuring Arab governments not to co-operate – in many cases where the requests were based on secret intelligence provided by Israel.
State department cables released by WikiLeaks show that Sudan was warned by the US in January 2009 not to allow the delivery of unspecified Iranian arms that were expected to be passed to Hamas in the Gaza Strip around the time of Israel's Cast Lead offensive, in which 1,400 Palestinians were killed.
US diplomats were instructed to express "exceptional concern" to the Khartoum authorities. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Chad were informed of the alleged Iranian plans and warned that any weapons deliveries would be in breach of UN resolutions banning Iranian arms exports.....
Months later the media reported that in mid-January Israeli planes mounted a long-range bombing attack on an arms convoy in Sudan's Red Sea province. The Sharq al-Awsat newspaper quoted a US official as saying Sudan had been warned in advance about the shipment.
State department documents record that Khartoum then privately accused the US of carrying out two air attacks in eastern Sudan: one in January 2009, with 43 dead and 17 vehicles destroyed, and another on 20 February, with 45 dead and 14 vehicles destroyed. "We assume that the planes that attacked us are your planes," a senior Sudanese official said......
In March 2009, Jordan and Egypt were informed by the US of new Iranian plans to ship a cargo of "lethal military equipment" to Syria with onward transfer to Sudan and then to Hamas. Host nations were requested to require that the flights land for inspection or deny them overflight rights. It is not known whether any deliveries went ahead......
At the end of that month Egypt's intelligence chief, General Omar Soleiman, told US officials Egypt was "succeeding" in preventing Iran from funnelling financial support to Hamas......
Only rarely do the US cables show evidence of direct Israeli requests to the US to block arms deliveries, probably because they would be highly classified. But in one bilateral meeting in Tel Aviv in 2009 a senior state department official noted "most requests to third countries to deny arms transfer overflights are based on Israeli intelligence. Additional information/intelligence from the government of Israel would ensure greater co-operation"........
Syria's deputy foreign minister, Faisal Miqdad, countered that the message showed that "the US has not come to a mature position [that would enable it] to differentiate between its own interests and Israel's". But US allies in the west and the Arab world were told bluntly: "These are US concerns. We are not carrying somebody else's 'water' on this issue" – a clear reference to Israel......
Syrian spy chief tells all
The US and Syria are at odds over Hamas, Hezbollah and, until recently, foreign jihadis in Iraq. So it was a surprise for the state department's top counter-terrorism official when the head of one of Syria's secret services turned up at a meeting in Damascus this year – and proceeded to describe his methods......
"By all means we will continue to do all this, but if we start co-operation with you it will lead to better results and we can better protect our interests," Mamlouk concluded."

WikiLeaks: Israel Weapons Manufacturer Listed as Site Vital to US Interests

Al-Manar
"07/12/2010 One of the latest U.S. diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks listed an Israeli weapons manufacturer as one of the global sites which the United States considers vital to its security interests.
The U.S. cable listed a Haifa weapons development facility belonging to the Israeli company Rafael as a site of vital interest, due to its significance in providing materials for sophisticated cluster bombs, according to Haaretz.
In February 2009, the U.S. State Department sent a secret cable to U.S. embassies all over the world, requesting information on foreign strategic sites or companies that are considered vital for U.S. security interests.
The cable said that the purpose of the information is to prevent, deter, and neutralize “terror attempts” on those sites, and it specifically said to keep the matter secret and not inform foreign governments about it.
The cable added a list of strategic sites for 2008 which also included a site in Israel – Rafael's Haifa weapons development facility. It was emphasized that the Haifa facility was imperative for creating specific materials for cluster bombs which turn them into precision-guided weapons...."

Defending Palestinian solidarity

There has been a recent escalation by the 'Israel Lobby' to muzzle the growing Palestinian solidarity movement.

"The Electronic Intifada, the online publication about Palestine that I co-founded in 2001, finds itself at the centre of a storm as a pro-Israel group applies pressure to have a grant from a Dutch foundation withdrawn.
This assault on our freedom of conscience is about much more than our website. It is part of a well-coordinated, escalating Israeli government-endorsed effort to vilify individuals and cripple organisations that criticise Israel's human rights record and call for it to respect Palestinian rights and international law.
The latest salvo came in a scurrilous article in The Jerusalem Post based on allegations from a group called NGO Monitor, accusing The Electronic Intifada of "anti-Semitism" - without citing a single example from the almost 12,000 articles we have published. The Electronic Intifada has responded to NGO Monitor's accusations. Of course the charge of "anti-Semitism" has long been a weapon in the hands of Israel's apologists when they cannot find a factual basis to challenge the site's reporting and analysis......
Now, these same lobby groups find themselves fighting against growing support for the alternative their own actions have rendered inevitable: a struggle for equal rights for all the people who inhabit the land. Their war against "delegitimization" offers nothing more than anger, hatred and demonization, often in alliance with the most racist and openly Islamophobic elements in Israel and North America. That is not a vision but a dead-end. And while it will be another challenge on top of so many faced by Palestinians, it won't stop those who have a vision for justice, equality and universal rights and who are working to make it a reality."

The Carmel wildfire is burning all illusions in Israel
Brilliant article by Max Blumenthal. Highly recommended.
"When I look out my window today and see a tree standing there, that tree gives me a greater sense of beauty and personal delight than all the vast forests I have seen in Switzerland or Scandinavia. Because every tree here was planted by us."
-- David Ben Gurion, Memoirs
"Why are there so many Arabs here? Why didn't you chase them away?"
-- David Ben Gurion during a visit to Nazareth, July 1948
Four days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to place thousands of migrant workers in a prison camp deep in the Negev Desert because, as he claimed, they pose a "threat to the character of [the] country," a burning tree trunk fell into a bus full of Israeli Prison Service cadets, killing forty passengers. The tree was among hundreds of thousands turned to ash by the forest fire pouring across northern Israel, and which now threatens to engulf outskirts of Haifa, Israel's third-largest city. Over the last four days, more than 12,300 acres have burned in the Mount Carmel area, a devastating swath of destruction in a country the size of New Jersey. While the cause of the fire has not been established, it has laid bare the myths of Israel's foundation.
Israelis are treating the fire as one of their greatest tragedies in recent years. A friend who grew up in the Haifa area told me over the weekend that he was devastated by the images of destruction he saw on TV. His friend's brother was among those who perished in the bus accident. Though he is a dedicated Zionist who supported Netanyahu's election bid in 2008, like so many Israelis, he was furious at the response -- or lack of one -- by the government. "Our leaders are complete idiots, but you already know that," he told me. "They invested so much to prepare for all kinds of crazy war scenarios but didn't do anything to protect civilians from the basic things you are supposed to take for granted."
On 3 December, Netanyahu informed the country, "We do not have what it takes to put out the fire, but help is on the way." To beat back the blaze, Bibi has had to beg for assistance from his counterpart in Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Western-backed Palestinian Authority and Israel's American and British patrons. Israel is a wealthy country which boasts to the world about its innovative spirit -- its US-based lobbyists market it as a "Start-Up Nation" -- but its performance during the forest fire revealed the sad truth: its government has prioritized offensive military capacity and occupation maintenance so extensively that it has completely neglected the country's infrastructure, emergency preparedness and most of all, the general welfare of its citizens.
Beyond the embarrassing spectacle of Turkish supply planes landing in Tel Aviv just six months after Israeli commandoes massacred Turkish aid volunteers on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, or the confessions of impotence by the hard-men Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman, the fire exposed a terrible history that had been concealed by layers of official mythology and piles of fallen pine needles.

"Julian Assange's lawyer has warned that supporters of the WikiLeaks founder will unleash a "thermonuclear device" of government files containing the names of spies, sources and informants if he's killed or brought to trial.
Assange, the 39-year-old Australian who has most recently embarrassed the U.S. by leaking hundreds of previously secret diplomatic dispatches over the past week, has dubbed the unfiltered cache of documents his "insurance" policy. The 1.5-gigabyte file, which has been distributed to tens of thousands of fellow hackers and open-government campaigners around the world, is encrypted with a 256-digit key, reports The Sunday Times. Experts interviewed by the paper said that even powerful military computers can't crack the encryption without the key.
Contained inside that file -- named insurance.aes256 -- are believed to be all of the documents that WikiLeaks has received to date, including unpublished papers on the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and papers belonging to BP and the Bank of America. Assange has previously suggested that the documents are unredacted, meaning they contain names that normally would be removed before publication to protect the lives of soldiers, spies and sources.
"We have over a long period of time distributed encrypted backups of material we have yet to release," he told the BBC in August. "All we have to do is release the password to that material, and it is instantly available."...."

To be innocent in America means we passively permit offshore penal colonies where we torture human beings, some of whom are children. To be innocent in America is to acquiesce to the relentless corporate destruction of the ecosystem that sustains the human species. To be innocent in America is to permit the continued theft of hundreds of billions of dollars from the state by Wall Street swindlers and speculators. To be innocent in America is to stand by as insurance and pharmaceutical companies, in the name of profit, condemn ill people, including children, to die. To be innocent in America is refusing to resist wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that are not only illegal under international law but responsible for the murder of hundreds of thousands of people. Defend WikiLeaks – Boycott Amazon

The online behemoth is an extension of the state

A VERY GOOD COMMENT

" A spontaneous movement to boycott Amazon.com, the online retailer, has taken off in response to the company’s decision to kick WikiLeaks off its servers. We at Antiwar.com unequivocally endorse this effort. In spite of attempts by some to claim the company was subjected to a threat “at gunpoint,” in reality, no one put a gun to Amazon’s head. They were more than happy to join the attack on WikiLeaks, as their statement made all too clear:

We at Antiwar.com unequivocally endorse this effort. In spite of attempts by some to claim the company was subjected to a threat “at gunpoint,” in reality, no one put a gun to Amazon’s head. They were more than happy to join the attack on WikiLeaks, as their statement made all too clear:
“There have been reports that a government inquiry prompted us not to serve WikiLeaks any longer. That is inaccurate......."
They couldn’t be clearer: although no doubt Lieberman’s direct intervention contained the threat of government action, this isn’t a case of a private company being bullied by Washington, and complying for fear of retribution. Amazon agrees with the government campaign to shut down WikiLeaks, and they want to do all they can to help.
Echoing the government-Big Media lie that WikiLeaks is purveying “stolen property,” Amazon is making propaganda for the regime and its efforts to take down WikiLeaks. Although it isn’t very convincing propaganda: after all, who “owns” those 250,000 diplomatic cables – or the “Collateral Damage” video, for that matter? Why, the people whose involuntary contributions paid for them, i.e. the American taxpayers. Now, instead of being kept in the dark about the often dangerous and provocative shenanigans our government is up to overseas, the American people have access to what is their property, not the government’s. .......
The answer of every freedom-loving American to these attacks must be: To hell with Amazon, to hell with Paypal, and to hell with the government. You’re either for liberty, or you’re against it: there is no middle ground.
The controversy over WikiLeaks is a defining issue, one that separates the liberty-lovers from the lickspittles.
Which one are you? "
Which one are you? "

Had we acted after the first release in July, there might not have been subsequent leaks, and lives and critical interests would have been protected.

But that was not to be under Obama. His secretary of state does not comprehend that America is the subject of the attack, his department of defence is not interested in defending us, and the president himself seems utterly indifferent to the whole affair.
All of this underscores the real problem. It is not WikiLeaks that ultimately imperils our national security, but the failing Obama administration, which ignores the nature and extent of threats we face, and which is too often unwilling to act to thwart them. While our economic difficulties have dominated the national debate for two years, national security will inevitably again come to the fore, as Americans see the full extent of the devastation left by Obama's policies. That shift cannot come too soon [Under President Bolton??]."

"Lebanon's western-backed government warned its friends that "Iran telecom" was taking over the country two years ago when it uncovered a secret communications network across the country used by Hezbollah, according to a US state department cable.
The discovery in April 2008 came against a background of mounting tensions between the Beirut government and the Iranian-backed Shia organisation, which escalated into street fighting in the capital just weeks later.
The US document, classified secret/noforn (not for foreign eyes) exposes deep regional and international concerns about the volatile situation in Lebanon amid fears of a new clash with Israel following the 2006 war.
Information on the Hezbollah fibre optics network, allegedly financed by Iran, was immediately passed to the US, Saudi Arabia and others by Lebanese ministers. The French president, Nicolas Sarkozy was "stunned" by the discovery, the US embassy reported. The Lebanese are bound to assume that the information also went to Israel, for whom Hezbollah is a significant enemy and priority intelligence target.
The US cable is one of several that have been published in Beirut by the leftwing al-Akhbar newspaper which has apparently been leaked as part of the WikiLeaks cache obtained by the Guardian, the New York Times and three continental European publications.
Al-Akhbar has highlighted contacts between the March 14 movement led by the current prime minister Saad al-Hariri, the US and the Saudis, prompting denials or defensive reactions from those named.
Marwan Hamadeh, the Lebanese minister of communications, warned the US charge d'affaires of the risks involved after Hezbollah indicated it would see any action against the telecoms network as "equal to an Israeli act of aggression"........"
WikiLeaks cables claim al-Jazeera changed coverage to suit Qatari foreign policy

US embassy memos contradict Arabic satellite channel's insistence that it is editorially independent despite being heavily subsidised by Gulf state

"Qatar is using the Arabic news channel al-Jazeera as a bargaining chip in foreign policy negotiations by adapting its coverage to suit other foreign leaders and offering to cease critical transmissions in exchange for major concessions, US embassy cables released by WikiLeaks claim. The memos flatly contradict al-Jazeera's insistence that it is editorially independent despite being heavily subsidised by the Gulf state.

They will also be intensely embarrassing to Qatar, which last week controversially won the right to host the 2022 World Cup after presenting itself as the most open and modern Middle Eastern state.
In the past, the emir of Qatar has publicly refused US requests to use his influence to temper al-Jazeera's reporting.
But a cable written in November 2009 predicted that the station could be used "as a bargaining tool to repair relationships with other countries, particularly those soured by al-Jazeera's broadcasts, including the United States" over the next three years.....
In February, the US embassy reported to Washington how "relations [between Qatar and Saudi Arabia] are generally improving after Qatar toned down criticism of the Saudi royal family on al-Jazeera". In July 2009, the US embassy said the channel "has proved itself a useful tool for the station's political masters".
In one dispatch, the US ambassador, Joseph LeBaron, reported that the Qatari prime minister, Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, had joked in an interview that al-Jazeera had caused the Gulf state such headaches that it might be better to sell it. But the ambassador remarked: "Such statements must not be taken at face value." He went on: "Al-Jazeera's ability to influence public opinion throughout the region is a substantial source of leverage for Qatar, one which it is unlikely to relinquish. Moreover, the network can also be used as a chip to improve relations. For example, al-Jazeera's more favourable coverage of Saudi Arabia's royal family has facilitated Qatari-Saudi reconciliation over the past year.".....
The US has benefitted, too. "Anecdotal evidence suggests, and former al-Jazeera board members have affirmed, that the United States has been portrayed more positively since the advent of the Obama administration," a cable in November 2009 said. "We expect that trend to continue and to further develop as US-Qatari relations improve."....."

Your tax money at work
An FBI informant who attempted to infiltrate an Islamic community centre in the quiet Californian town of Irvine scared Muslim worshippers so much with his talk of violent jihad that they took out order against him, the Washington Postreported.
The FBI claims its use of such informants has prevented more attacks since the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Yet its officials have said that they do not target Muslims - an argument that has long been taken with a dose of scepticism by some commentators.
The latest case follows revelations that a man who tried to bomb a Christmas ceremony in Portland, Oregon, did so not only whilst under FBI surveillance, but had been provided with fake explosives by its undercover agents.
Making matters worse for the agency, Craig Monteilh, the convicted fraudster whom the FBI sent into the mosque to spy on its members, has gone public and is suing the investigative agency.
EU 'losing faith' in Afghanistan

Leaked US cables quote EU president saying that European troops are deployed in Nato force in 'deference' to the US.
Al-Jazeera
"The European Union no longer believes that US and Nato forces can succeed in Afghanistan, but continues to commit troops to the fight "out of deference to the United States", the EU president is quoted as saying in leaked US diplomatic cables.
Herman Van Rompuy, who at the time was president-designate, was quoted as telling Howard Gutman, the US ambassador to Belgium, in December 2009 that 2010 would be the "last chance" for Afghanistan in European eyes.
"Europe is doing it and will go along out of deference to the United States but not out of deference to Afghanistan," Van Rompuy is quoted as saying in the cable posted by the WikiLeaks whistleblowing website on Sunday....."

Boycott paypal for preventing donation to Wikileaks
The online payments processor, PayPal, says it has cut access for donations to the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks.
PayPal said its payment service cannot be used for activities "that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity".
Wikileaks' latest releases - of US diplomatic cables - have caused considerable embarrassment to the US and its allies, correspondents say.
It has been forced to change its web address after sustained cyber attacks.
In a statement, US-based PayPal said donations could no longer be made to Wikileaks because of "a violation of the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy"
Earlier, the company providing Wikileaks with its domain name, EveryDNS.net, cut off service because the domain wikileaks.org had become the target of "multiple distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks".
The company said: "These attacks have, and future attacks would, threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure, which enables access to almost 500,000 other websites."
Wikileaks later reappeared using a Swiss web address.
It had earlier turned to the online store Amazon to host its site but the company ended the agreement on Wednesday - a move welcomed by US officials.
Amazon said Wikileaks had failed to adhere to its terms of service.
"It's clear that Wikileaks doesn't own or otherwise control all the rights to this classified content. Further it is not credible that the extraordinary volume of 250,000 classified documents that Wikileaks is publishing could have been carefully redacted in such a way as to ensure that they weren't putting innocent people in jeopardy," Amazon said on its website.
