Because the Pharaoh Has No Balls: Closure of Rafah Crossing prevents vital medical instruments entering Gaza

"Gaza – Ma'an – Due to the closure of Rafah Crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, many stranded Palestinians have greatly suffered.

Many of those trapped at the crossing were citizens of Gaza seeking medical treatment in Egypt. They have been stranded since the internecine fighting in June without adequate healthcare or sanitation.

Head of the department of nephrology in the Palestinian health ministry, Ayman Al-Shifa, said that the closure of the crossing created a major humanitarian disaster, due to the lack of medical care, especially for those who suffer from nephritis.

Nephritis is the inflammation of the kidneys, often due to the patient suffering from other diseases such as Bright's disease.

Patients are suffering due to insufficient quantities of equipment for their treatment and the closure of the crossing has prevented the equipment from being imported into Gaza.

Al-Shifa said that there are severe shortages of medical instruments in Gaza.

"This disease is very dangerous and patients are filled with fear and anxiety for their futures," said Al-Shifa. "
