US claim of Iran-al-Qaeda 'deal' discredited

"Evidence of an antagonistic relationship between Iran and al-Qaeda uncovered in Osama bin Laden's files contradicts assertions by the United States Treasury that a "secret deal" existed between Tehran and the terrorists. As al-Qaeda was escalating an anti-Iran campaign of kidnappings and threats, Washington was painting the group as Iran's allies to suit its diplomatic strategy...."
