Israeli Mentally Challenged to Serve in Army

Al-Manar

"10/03/2008 A new project is set to give Israel's mentally challenged an opportunity to serve in the Israeli army.

AKIM, the National Association for the Habilitation of the Mentally Handicapped, is cooperating with the Israel army to enlist 200 mentally challenged Israelis between the ages of 21 and 30 into the army.

In the past, mentally challenged Israelis would get an automatic exemption from the army at the age of 18."
