Hundreds of Palestinians yesterday held a protest against the Palestinian Authority security agencies and their suppression of a protest on Sunday near Ramallah’s court during which demonstrators were attacked with tear gas.
The participants chanted slogans against the Palestinian Authority and its security forces, and called for the security coordination with Israel to be stopped.
Political activist Omar Assaf said the protest was the largest against the Palestinian Authority in the past decade.
Assaf said in an interview with Al-Aqsa TV that the march sent a clear message to the Palestinian Authority of the need to abandon its security coordination and change its approach in dealing with the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian authority is coming to a miserable fate because the people can no longer endure it.
On Sunday, Palestinian security agencies suppressed a protest in Ramallah against the posthumous trial of Basel Al-Araj.
The Palestinian security services attacked demonstrators with batons, pepper spray and tear gas, leading to the injury of about 20 people including Al-Araj’s father and the arrest of several others.
Al-Araj was killed by the Israeli army on 6 March during an armed clash in a house in Ramallah.
