Odwan: Abbas' presence in Gaza bad omen
"Gaza - Dr. Atef Odwan, the PA minister of refugees' affairs, on Sunday strongly denounced members of the PLO executive committee, saying they bowed to foreign pressures led by the USA and described PA chief Mahmoud Abbas' presence in Gaza as a bad omen.
Odwan charged that the present PLO executive committee members did not represent the Palestinian people and none recognized them as representing the original committee of the PLO, most members of whom had died.
In a strongly worded statement, Odwan said that the current PLO executive committee members were a group of "old men" who only keep in mind how to survive and how to carry out USA policy even at the expense of the Palestinian people.
The minister expressed utter surprise at the fact that this committee did not convene to discuss Israeli aggressions on the Palestinian people but only swiftly met to condemn the Hamas-led government.
He also said that the transfer of Abbas from Ramallah to Gaza was a sign of bad omen, affirming that such a surprise transfer meant that he was ordered by foreign powers to move to Gaza to confront Hamas in its stronghold.
Odwan further expressed surprise over the fact that Abbas declared that talks over a national unity government had reached a dead-end but did not describe negotiations with Israel as reaching a deadlock. "
