Syria warns of US 'lies', NKorea dismiss nuclear links

"16/09/2007 Syrian official daily Ath-Thawra warned on Sunday that US "lies" over nuclear cooperation with North Korea could serve as a pretext for an attack on Syria following an Israeli violation of its airspace.
"Members of the choir have started up a new song that is full of hostility, this time about Syrian-Korean nuclear cooperation," the daily said. "This is a big lie... Syria is used to having to put up with such lies." "The United States and Israel need a file... after the recent violation of Syrian airspace by Israeli planes," Ath-Thawra said. "The latest accusation could be a prelude to more attacks on Syria." Ath-Thawra said "the occupation of Iraq was based on this kind of accusation," referring to former dictator Saddam Hussein's alleged weapons of mass destruction which were never found after the US-led invasion of 2003.

NKorean envoy dismisses Syria nuclear links

A senior North Korean diplomat has dismissed media reports that the communist state may be helping Syria build a nuclear facility, South Korea's Yonhap news agency said Sunday. "They often say things that are groundless," Kim Myong-Gil, the North's deputy UN mission chief, told Yonhap in the first official response to last week's reports about alleged cooperation between Pyongyang and Damascus. Both the New York Times and Washington Post reported, citing unnamed sources, that North Korea may be helping Syria build a nuclear weapons facility."
