Syria: a map of reported deaths of citizens and troops since the uprising

Since the uprising at the start of 2011 there have been few reporters in Syria to convey the situation. It's hard to get a feeling for the extent and frequency with which citizens and troops are shot and killed over this time.

To help we have gathered reports from national news agencies and collated them to make this map of reported deaths in Syria. Clicking on the pins reveals the dates on which the killing took place and links to the source of the information.

The data for the map links to reports for over 1,000 deaths since the uprising. Given the UN have today reported over 5,000 deaths the map also shows the limited view the media has had. Let us know what you think in the comments.
