Hebrew press: Israeli security cabinet approved plan to assassinate Haneyya

"OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli security cabinet has endorsed a plan to assassinate Ismail Haneyya, the premier of the PA caretaker government in Gaza and the prominent Hamas leader, during a meeting last week, Hebrew press reported.

The Israeli website Rotter quoted senior sources in the security cabinet as saying that Israeli war minister Ehud Barak was the one championing that plan.

The sources pointed out that Israel had asked the USA to approve the plan, which was sanctioned only a few days ago.

They affirmed that president George Bush had agreed to the plan on condition that the assassination would take place after his visit to Israel, which is expected in mid January.

Israel had assassinated a number of prominent Hamas leaders such as the Movement's founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and his successor Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Rantisi."
