Goldstone Urges Int'l Community to End Impunity in MidEast

Al-Manar

"29/09/2009 UN investigator Richard Goldstone on Tuesday urged the international community to end the "culture of impunity" for violations of international law in the Middle East, according to a United Nations statement.

Speaking to the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday, Goldstone defended the UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict's report, which put the criminal and the victim at one side and claimed that both Israel and Palestinian groups had committed actions which amounted to war crimes, as well as possibly crimes against humanity.

The judge urged the committee to refer the report to the UN Security Council, citing the fact that neither Israeli nor Hamas had carried out any internal investigations into Operation Cast Lead. Should parties fail to respond to Security Council demands, he said, the matter would be forwarded to the International Criminal Court........."
