"CAIRO: According to media reports circulated in Egypt on Friday, the former Vice-President and former head of General Intelligence, Omar Suleiman, has decided to run for president, scheduled for this May.

A group called the “Revolutionary Front,” which supports the nomination of Suleiman for the presidency, quoted sources close to the former first-ever Vice-President of former President Hosni Mubarak, after the latter spent nearly 30 years in power, reported that Suleiman had agreed to run for the presidential race, “based on the desire of Egyptian street.”

The founder of Suleiman`s support campaign, Samuel Ashai, said that “the decision to nominate Suleiman for the presidency came due to the confidence of Egyptians in him and as a savior of chaos at all levels, and the only one capable, by virtue of past experience, to control the institutions of the state in this current crucial phase.”

The spokesman added that “the continued pressure on Omar Suleiman, to run for presidential elections, beginning from collecting recommendations by citizens to support his candidacy, and the appeals in the media, was the catalyst for him.”

Activists are likely to vehemently oppose his candidacy, citing his connections to the previous regime and Mubarak."
