At least 20 people have been killed in two suicide bombings in a busy area of a southern Beirut suburb that is a stronghold of Lebanese Hezbollah, according to a senior interior ministry spokesman.
At least 40 people were reported to have been injured in the blasts, Reuters reported. Local media said that the attacks occurred just outside a Shia centre in the Borj al-Barajneh area.
George Kittaneh, head of the Lebanese Red Cross operations, put the death toll at 16.
