"The Israeli army continued its military offensive against the Gaza Strip and shelled on Sunday at night buildings that belong to the Islamic University in Gaza City.
Kamaleen Shaath, Head of the Islamic University in Gaza said that the Israeli army does not hesitate in hitting any target in Gaza as the army shelled a mosque, hospital and several civilian facilities.
The Qatar-based AL Jazeera Satellite news channel reported said that several buildings were shelled in the university including a residency for female students. Waleed AL Mudallal, one of the lecturers at the Islamic University, said in a phone interview with Al Jazeera that the university decided yesterday to announce a three –day mourning in protest to the Israeli military crimes.
Al Mudallal added that the carried previously repeated Israeli strikes that targeted the university, including an air strike that was carried out two years ago and caused extensive damage but this damage is considered small comparing to the damage that resulted in today’s air strike.
Dr. Nihad Al Sheikh Khalil, another lecturer at the University, said that the army shells universities, mosques and other civilian facilities and then claims “victory”. He added that the army does not hesitate in shelling any civilian target as the army also shelled residential towers in Gaza on Saturday.
Local sources did not report casualties in the shelling that targeted the university as it was evacuated on Saturday.
The army fired several missiles at facilities belonging to the University. The Israeli Air Force also carried two further air strikes that targeted Gaza City on Sunday at night. "
