Patrick Kingsley has just sent this disturbing dispatch from the Imam Mosque – about half a mile from the burnt Rabaa campsite where
more than 100 dead bodies lie strewn on the floor.
Many of the bodies are burnt charcoal black and unidentifiable. I have just seen the blackened crumbling body of an unknown protester that was said by doctors to be a boy in his early teens.
When the police and army stormed the Rabaa field hospital late on Wednesday a fire broke out and many of the corpses were left burnt inside.
Outside the Imam mosque there are several lists of the identified dead complete with the locations of where their bodies are being kept to aid their relatives in their search.
Inside there is a stench of blood and antiseptic and some mourners carry incense sticks to ward away the smell but this has little effect.
A doctor from the Egyptian medical syndicate Hany Nawara said that the morgues of Cairo were not able to process and absorb so many bodies and that the police have refused to come down to the morgue to deal with the administrative procedures needed to bury the bodies.
They are also refusing to register the dead as victims of murder and the the ministry of health were refusing to send forensic teams to asses the bodies as well.
“We want to send out a message to the world that after killing these people the deep state is trying to drive the families to a point of despair so that they bury their loved ones without registering the cause,” Dr Nawara said.......
BREAKING: Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman says death toll in Wednesday's violence
