Egyptian police take deserting Fatah fighters into custody

"Bethlehem – Ma'an - Egyptian police have announced that some 100 Palestinians, mostly from the Fatah-affiliated security services and militant brigades, have escaped from Hamas fighters and arrived by sea at the Al A'rish Egyptian port in a small boat.

On board were members from the preventive security service, the civilian police and the Al Aqsa Brigades. The Egyptian police authorities confirmed that 13 had been injured during the infighting.

This group arrived at Al A'rish, 50km southwest of Gaza, at dawn, allegedly carrying 57 machine guns and 20 grenade launchers. The Egyptian police have now handed the group over to the Egyptian military, who have taken them to a nearby military base.

Two days ago, 20 Palestinians entered Egypt through the Rafah crossing, closed by the government during this week, because of the situation in Gaza."
