Press report: Hamas refused release of its prisoners only in swap deal

"LONDON, (PIC)-- A responsible source in Hamas has said that his Movement had rejected an Israeli offer to release 450 of its prisoners in occupation jails and to forget about other factions' prisoners, according to a press report on Sunday.

The London-based 'Al-Hayat' newspaper quoted the unidentified source as saying that the Israeli official entrusted with the prisoners' exchange file told the Egyptian side of the offer, which was immediately turned down and described as "ridiculous" by Hamas.

The source asserted that Hamas did not change its position in the swap deal, and held the Hebrew state responsible for impeding an agreement.

Hamas is not in a hurry and is ready to wait for a long time until it wins a good deal, the source said, explaining that his Movement insists on the release of all prisoners included in the list submitted with Egypt. He noted that one of the items in the proposed exchange deal, as tabled by Hamas, was dropping all charges and sentences against those to be released.

The same paper quoted a senior Egyptian official as saying that both Egypt and Hamas rejected an Israeli offer to banish all those to be released who had "Israeli blood on their hands" to Gaza or abroad.

Observers did not rule out that the PA leadership, Fatah faction and the illegitimate government of Salam Fayyad had asked Israel not to release their cadres in any swap deal, believing that such a step would boost Hamas and enhance its popularity......."
